Vote 4 Idol

Our First Tuesday, A.L (After Lambert)

So, we survived our first Tuesday without Alex Lambert and inspite of the fact that Demi Moore retweeted the petition to bring him back, we didn’t see him… or even hear of it. Needless to say his fans were out in droves supporting him all over the web. Twitter especially went wild as people swore they wouldn’t vote or watch at all now that Alex was  no longer on the show. Twitters expressed the most distain towards Tim (I got here on my looks) Urban and Andrew (I sing chick songs) Garcia claiming both stole the spots that belonged to  Alex Lambert and they should be ashamed!
Honestly, I found I enjoyed the Twitter feed much more than I enjoyed the “Boring Stones” as my friend B so creativly called the Top 12’s attempt at  performing songs from The Rolling Stones. The good news… The Idols have stylists now.
Moving on, here is a recap of the night performances as blogged live by one of my partners rz:
First up is Michael Lynche with Miss You. He brings out the falsetto again this week and shows us that he can fill the big stage. Randy notes that he’s become a great performer and Ellen says it was the perfect way to start off the night. Kara liked how he filled up the stage and thought his performance was good. Simon was glad to see that his confidence is up, but feels like the dancing was a little corny and the performance was a little desperate at times. 5701

Didi Benami brings us back from the break with her version of Play with Fire. She has a little bit of an oops! moment, but she was able to recover and ends up with a pretty nice performance. Randy says she’s on fire! (one of her best performances) Ellen says she sounded great and recovered well. Kara loved the intensity of her performance and Simon says she’s beginning to show us the artist that she is – he liked the song choice and called her vocal solid. 5702

Up next is Casey James strumming his guitar to It’s All Over Now. I really liked the country/bluesy twang he was able to put on this song…it fit him. Randy likes that he is back to Bluesy Casey, and Ellen says it was fantastic! Kara calls him a rockstar – the blues and soul are really working for him. Simon calls it an audition performance and wants to see him use the stage more. 5703

Here we go, Lacey Brown - she has chosen Ruby Tuesday. Definitely an interesting arrangement and choice, but she’s kindof a quirky person. Randy says the arrangement was interesting but he was pleasantly surprised. Ellen called her performance a little bit sleepy and found her sitting when it felt like she should stand or visa versa…it felt odd. Kara says it was 50/50 – the voice was great, but some notes were a miss. Simon says she performs like an actress with a lot of thought to detail but she needs to let go. 5704

Andrew Garcia has chosen Gimme Shelter, and while he is pitchy he brings up the energy level of the night just a little. Randy, of course, calls him on the pitchiness. Ellen says this was his best performance yet – she loved it! Kara says it felt too superficial for her – not enough emotional connection and intensity. Simon says he gave 100%, but the performance was better in rehearsal (with no judges at their posts!). 5705

*Commercials*

At the halfway mark is Katie Stevens with Wild Horses – a sufficiently slow and boring song choice, IMO. It left me feeling unsatisfied. Randy thought the vocal was strong and the performance was good. Ellen liked the choice even though she was pitchy in the beginning. Kara says it was not technically perfect but better than last week. Simon likes the song choice but lost the emotional connection in the last half. 5706

Tim Urban is up next, and as much as I love his smile, I just can’t get behind his version of Under My Thumb. This kid has got some killer dimples, and I really liked that he tried to make this song his own – it just didn’t quite work. Randy didn’t get the reggae vibe, and it gave Ellen a feeling like she was at a resort. For her it was just too laid back. Kara liked that he attempted to make it his own. Simon gave him credit for trying to make it his own, but it just didn’t work – it was a “crazy decision”. 5707

Alright - Siobhan Magnus is up! She chose to do Paint It Black – and she started out sitting on the stairs. Dark horse she may have been at one time, but she is dark no longer! I liked the drama in her changed-up version of this song. And yes, she belted it. Randy called it hot! Ellen said the song, the look, and the sound were all great! Kara started having flashbacks of Adam Lambert from Season 8 and calls it her best performance so far! Simon agrees with Kara! 5708

*Commercials*

Lee Dewyze greets us as we return from the break, singing Beast of Burden. I really loved how soft/sensitive and vulnerable Lee felt on this song. Randy called it dope! Ellen said it was great although not quite what she had expected from him. Kara likes seeing the growth that he is exhibiting. Simon calls his performance safe and says his personality is his limiting factor. 5709

*Commercials*

We’re in the home stretch! Paige Miles is next up with Honky Tonk Woman. I admit, I’m not much of a Paige fan – I found her phrasing really awkward in this performance. Randy says he wasn’t sure to begin with, but she pulled out a good performance – even if it needed more energy. Ellen says she has great stage presence and it was a great vocal. Kara says she got lost at times, but she felt like the Paige that they love is back. Simon says the song was generic and there wasn’t an emotional connection, but the vocal was good. 5710

Aaron Kelly - oh dear – is singing Angie tonight. I found his performance boring, however the judges disagreed. Randy called it hot. Ellen liked the song choice and called it a stand out performance. Kara liked the powerful emotional connection, and Simon says he chose the right song – and that it was in tune and believable. 5711

*Commercials*

And the pimp spot tonight goes to Crystal Bowersox with You Can’t Always Get What You Want! Randy says it wasn’t her best performance, but it was still good. Ellen loves how effortless her performances seem to be and liked the little bit of personality that was there tonight. Kara likes how loosened up/comfortable she is on stage. Simon says it wasn’t the best song choice, and the other things floating around in her head during the performance showed. 5712

So at nights end I’m left wondering??? Did anyone do the Rolling Stones justice??? Has Season 9 been bitten with the “I wanna be like ADAM LAMBERT and rewrite every song I sing”bug? Is Alex Lambert watching at home yelling at the TV “I could have done that better”! and since Alex Lambert didn’t come back tonight will people still sign the petition?

As for the elimination I’m guessing Tim Urban will be safe no matter what because he’s got the teen vote as well as Vote For The Worst on his side. (He could even win with that support dynamic). So, my prediction… Andrew Garcia is going home. What do you think?
